Ever since my younger brother and sister were born, twins who are ten years younger than me, I would pose them around the house, in their cribs, and take pictures of them with a disposable camera. I’d try to get the scene right, put them in a nice background, or have them pose in a certain way. Now that I photograph people for work, I still do the same thing, but I know more about what I’m actually doing! I still think about the scene, the background, the lighting, and the person’s posing, but more in terms of how it affects their appearance and how it will turn out in the finished pictures.
Now, my own poor kids have always been my practice people, and aren’t always happy about it, ha. I love to do portraits of people, capturing their special moments and milestones in their lives. I also love photographing couples, whether they’re newly engaged or married couples who want something on their wall besides wedding photos. Family pictures are always an adventure: getting everyone to smile, look at the camera, and have fun amid the guaranteed meltdowns that come with small children.
But getting pictures that capture real people and moments they can look back on and cherish forever is why I love taking pictures. If you’re looking for a photographer, you can find my portfolio and booking info at Melisa Kaye Photography.
